Thanks for this, Claudia. I started Substack some months ago with 0 subscribers and the zeal to grow. I'm at 80 now (might seem small), but it means a lot to me. Like a motivation to keep going.

Thank you so much Claudia, this is really going to help me. I took detailed notes all the way through and I plan to use all your ideas especially the 3 Step Action Plan. I'm going to certainly write for the readers I have now, growth will follow. Thank you again, this was amazing. I'm sharing, joining your community and especially subscribing.

Thanks Claudia 👌 Straight to the point. Great. I’m launching my first collaboration article on Thursday (just hit the 100 subscriber mark). I don’t think it’s too early. And, it’s with a Substack bestseller.

I’m excited. Do you think collaborating drives in more than recommendations?

Claudia Faith's avatar

hm, no - I think recommendations drive more than collaborations - but you could potentially ask for the collaborator to recommend each other

Thanks for these tips! Constantly seeing the same message, which is that small, consistent effort compounds. That is wildly relieving. Cheers!

The compounding effect is real.

Love the breakdown of the stages!

How is following helpful? My followers are twice as many as my subscribers and hardly any of them convert to subscribers.

Claudia Faith's avatar

they mainly just can push your Notes etc, so I’d say rather for visbility

Petra's avatar

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you! Do you PM your followers, inviting them to subscribe? <3

Claudia Faith's avatar

No, that's something I personally don't do. I DM subscribers but not followers.

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer my questions. <3

"Don't obsess over your subscriber count at this stage. Focus on publishing regularly and engaging genuinely." Needed this. I'm 5 days into a public experiment testing Substack growth advice from zero and the urge to refresh the dashboard every hour is real. Your phase breakdown helps — different tactics for different stages instead of doing everything at once.

Thanks for this. I used your tip about following people who 'like' a post I resonate with and it works great.

This is very useful. Currently, I am reaching 30 subscribers as working towards first 100 and even 1000 subscribers. Congrats on achieving your 14,000 subscribers

This is a great read Claudia. I'm finding the fact that you saw the number of free subscribers increase more rapidly after you created a paid subscription very interesting. I'll be honest, the potential of slower growth is one of the factors stopping me from starting a paid tier or publication.

If I may, I'd like to ask you another question: what have you found to be the advantages and disadvantages of having two publications at the same time?

It was a stellar post with his steps to take… It was inspiring and motivating all at the same time… I just made it to my first hundred

Thank you so much for this advice! Impressive and inspiring to me trying to navigate through this fun but often torturous passion we call writing.

What triggered the steep growth around October?

This is more than helpful ..it is gold..now got to find a way to implement all of this

step by step - you don’t need to do it all at once :)
