I’m so excited to share my latest interview with no other than Kristina God.
It’s her second anniversary on Substack, so a perfect time to ask her all those questions that one has when starting on your online writing journey.
Kristina and I sat down to discuss her journey, how she’s grown, and what creators can do when they feel stuck.
She went from being a top writer on Medium to building a great community on Substack.

How it all started & How it’s going on Substack
Kristina started on Substack in October 2022, but her writing journey really took off earlier than that on Medium. Even though she was making over $1k a month on Medium, she knew sticking to one platform wasn’t enough.
“I was a top writer on Medium, which was great, but I couldn’t depend on just one place. So, in October, I gave Substack a shot and focused on growing my email list”, Kristina says.
In retrospect, such a smart thing to do.
Now, she’s got over 300 paid subscribers and is making around $30,000 a year only with the paid subscribers. On top of that, she is also making money with her boot camps, her writing school, and her YouTube videos. A true content empire, she’s building there.
Medium + Substack. A win-win situation.
For Kristina, diversification is important if you want to have long-term success.
"It’s crucial not to rely on just one platform," she emphasizes. "I wanted to make sure I wasn’t solely dependent on Medium, which led me to Substack. You never want to be in a position where one platform controls your entire income."
Substack has now become her primary platform, though she still repurposes content for Medium and grows her audience on YouTube, where she has 3,000 subscribers.
Kristina’s Top Tip for Substack Creators & What to Do When You’re Stuck
If you are starting out or feel stuck, this is Kristina’s number one tip:
“Take your time and really be active on Substack.”
Take time to explore Substack, there are so many features, such as Notes, live chats, and paid subscriptions.
"The more you engage, the better", she adds.
"Start by amplifying your voice through Substack Notes or other platforms. You don’t need a massive following. The more genuine interactions you have, the more momentum you’ll build."
Future Plans & What We Can Learn from Kristina
Looking ahead, Kristina’s main focus is on continuing to grow her Substack community and paid subscribers. She also has a passion for making Substack more popular in Germany (which makes sense seeing that she is German as well), where she sees significant untapped potential for creators.
Next to all the projects she does, she still is working full-time and is a mom as well. Wow.
