7 Simple Steps to Improve Your Writing and Get More Done
Millions of people are searching for their flow.
The lucky ones have already found theirs.
And they know how to get into a state of flow. That’s important.
Being in flow means to be in a state of deep concentration on an activity in which you are completely absorbed and engaged.
When you’re in flow, you often lose track of time, enjoy what you’re doing, and become very productive and creative.
It helps you to enjoy your work and get something done.
If you are a writer, this will help you maximize your output. That's the key to being consistent and actually making it as a writer.
Let me tell you how to reach your flow state quickly.
I'll tell you what gets me into the flow the quickest at the end of this post.
7 Steps To Write In Flow
Set yourself clear goals: If you know exactly what you want to achieve, you can focus on it and stick to it. Each goal should be specific and achievable. For example, your goal could be to write one two-minute and one five-minute article every morning. Determine the topic you want to write about and get started.
Minimize distractions: Create a work environment where you are interrupted as little as possible.
Choose the right task: The task should be challenging enough to avoid boredom, but not so difficult that it becomes frustrating. It should ideally match your skill level to keep you interested and engaged. If you enjoy writing, you can figure out what topics you want to write about that are right up your alley. It should be something that interests you but is still challenging.
Allocate uninterrupted time: Dedicate a specific block of time for concentrated work. This means no multitasking (I know that’s a tough one, certainly for me!).
Warm up: Engage in a short, relevant activity that prepares you for the main task at hand. For example, if you want to write, read something inspiring or write down a few initial thoughts to stimulate your creativity.
Monitor your energy levels: Your physical and mental energy levels can greatly affect your ability to get into flow. Work on tasks when your energy is at its highest.
Practice regularly: Achieving flow becomes easier with practice. If you regularly engage in tasks that allow you to get into flow, you will find it easier to reach this state more often.
For example, I find my flow state in the early hours of the morning, with a coffee in front of me and going through the 7 steps, ready to write an article.
On a non-work-related level, I find my flow in doing things that require my body and brain to work together with full attention. There is a very close connection between flow and focus, did you know that?
Do you know escape games? That’s where I find my flow.
I concentrate fully on the task of leaving the room and I’m immediately in my flow.
I love them.
What are activities that bring you into flow?

Getting into the flow of writing is so important. I often find myself in the zone when I'm immersed in my writing. I get so much more productive. The issue I face is the starting up part where I will often take more energy to start the focus before getting into the groove.
Coffee and reading through what other writers are writing warm me up and give me the urge to start my own writing. Being in a positive and inspiring environment is so important!
I use binaural beats (Brain.fm) and headphones.
There’s research to support your habit of getting on with it early.
