Exactly! Sub heads and white space lets the words breathe.

White space - yes - I've noticed how hard it is to read long dense paragraphs.

that’s right 🤩

Sub headings, no more than four lines in a paragraph, single line sentences are fine. Probably a bunch of things but I don’t think of it, I just do it if that makes sense.

Great advice as always! As a seasoned writer, especially in digital media, I can say you have hit the main points! Nothing hurts my brain more than to see either one huge block of texts or multiple paragraphs of block text.

right?! :D glad that you agree 🧡

Design...thanks for this. I typically write in an other space (like Word) and then copy over and it's easy to forget this piece.

The 3-act format is how we're wired.

Thank you for people like you who take time to spread knowledge.

I am new here and want to achieve great things with my words.

Does the 1-3-1 serve as a whole post? Or an intro?

Expand full comment

1-3-1 can be a for paragraphs.. so I like to use it here and there throughout my newsletter/posts

I’d just like to say Claudia that I’m already feeling the benefit of this format. Thank you for introducing me to it.

I wonder if it’s possible to create one or more anchor links up at the top of an article linking to sections farther down, so readers can skip to certain subtopics or to a TL;DR summary, etc. For longer or more complex posts, you could put a simple table of contents at the top, and let viewers jump around more easily.

Does anyone know if this is a current feature?

hmm, good question. I don’t think it is, but I’ll check it out!

This is interesting. Do you think this still applies to essay type posts?

Expand full comment

I do think so. You want to make it as easy as possible for your audience to get into your writing, that holds true for essays as well

Claudia would you use a similar stricte for Substack notes? 131 I mean?

Expand full comment

good question! I would say so. actually I just recently looked at my notes and without thinking a lot about it, I do it a lot already :)

I love the way you say it and show it
