The Surprisingly Simple (But Ruthless) Routine Behind My Substack Growth
You asked for my Substack routine, here it is
“How much time do you spend daily on Substack?” is one of the questions I get asked most often.
And I get it. There are thousands of aspiring creators and writers on Substack who don’t write full-time. They have their regular 9–5 jobs. But they still want to know what it really takes, time-wise, to be successful on here as a one-woman show.
So today, I want to share my Substack routine including rough time estimates of how much I spend each day on this beautiful platform.
Vamos.
Trying to grow your audience on Substack or turn your writing into income? You're not alone. And you don’t need to keep guessing.

Most important: Find your own rhythm
Up front: your Substack routine is nothing set in stone. It really depends on the stage you’re in. You’ll grow and shift through those phases over time.
Of course, it also depends on what else you’ve got going on in life.
Personally, I’ve never done Substack 100% full-time since I still run my startup. But I’ve spent a good chunk of time figuring out what I can do quickly and what actually takes more intention.
That said: you’ll need to find your own rhythm. If you chase the stars and burn out by month three, you’ve given yourself permission to quit before you even had a chance to start.
Try things out, explore and find out what works for you.

My Substack Routine & Time-Estimations
Daily Morning Routine (Monday–Sunday)
Time estimate: 30 min – 1 hour
First thing in the morning, I check my notifications and like every comment on my Notes. Sometimes I comment back on my Notes. But I always comment back on my posts.
I check my Chat messages and reply immediately if I can (depending on the message).
I message every new subscriber to welcome them to my publication (quickly done with this tool).
I create and post 2–3 Notes.
I like and engage with 5 other Notes.
Blog Post Days (Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday)
Time estimate: 1–2 hours
Tuesday & Thursday: I write posts for Wander Wealth
Wednesday: I write a post for The Successful Online Entrepreneur
Each post includes:
Topic research (often based on audience questions or recent experiences)
Creating the layout
Writing the post
Crafting the headline
Designing the header image
Writing the SEO description
Group Chat Engagement Days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
Time estimate: 30 min – 1 hour
For Wander Wealth
Monday: Notes Boost for paid subscribers
Wednesday: Notes Boost for all subscribers
Friday: Growth tip + personal feedback for paid subscribers
For The Successful Online Entrepreneur
Wednesday: Personal feedback chat
Especially my Friday growth tips and feedback chats can extend into the weekend, depending on interaction levels. I often spend extra time responding to people throughout Saturday and Sunday.
🌟 Weekend (Saturday / Sunday – Occasional)
Time estimate: 5 minutes
Occasionally, I share a small win or host a light community chat.
These don’t require much input but help keep the community connected.
If I had to sum it up: I spend around 1 to 3 hours a day on Substack.
Some days more (like when I’m writing posts or doing feedback), some days less (especially weekends).
It’s not full-time. But it’s steady. And that’s what matters.
Over time, I’ve figured out what takes real focus and what I can do in 5 minutes with a coffee in hand. You’ll find your rhythm too. One that works for your life, energy, and goals.
If you want help with your Substack, you know where to find me.
